Hunter’s Barbershop has been serving the Montrose, Colorado valley since 1954, originally located by the, then one movie, Fox Theater. Hunter’s Barbershop was the creating of Charles Hunter who, with the help of his brother Larry Hunter along with other local talent, continued the proud Barbering tradition for over 60-years. During the 1970’s, Charles or ‘Chaz’ as he is often referred, had the opportunity to buy real estate on North Uncompahgre Ave. He then re-opened Hunter’s Barbershop in its current location of 22 N. Uncompahgre where it has continued to serve Montrose, CO and the surrounding townships.
The building dates back to the 1800’s and has been many things to include the American Legion Bar and Dance Hall, drawing people from all over Western Colorado to its legendary dances and live music. The shop proudly continues to use the original barber chairs and back-bar purchased by Chaz in 1959! Step back to a simpler and better time and see for yourself, the history, the nostalgia, the pride, that is Hunter’s Barbershop.
